Gretel is most at fault for Bruno’s tragic death. Gretel is responsible because she knew about the concentration camps and she made Bruno believe that the camp was good. Gretel knew the true nature of the camp, but didn’t tell Bruno, and so Bruno didn’t know what he was getting in to. Gretel is older and wiser than Bruno. Gretel knew it wasn’t a farm, but a camp. Gretel knew what Lt. Kotler did to Pavel, but she didn’t explain it to Bruno. Although some believe it is the parent's responsibility to tell these things,Gretel should have told him.Gretel made Bruno believe that the Nazis and the camp were good, so Bruno was not afraid of the camp. Gretel assured Bruno that what Father was doing in the camp was good. Gretel was always flirting with Lt. Kotler, and listened to what he said about the camp.Although Gretel didn’t feel she needed to explain, she should have spelled out what was happening in the camp. Gretel knew the evil nature of the camp but didn’t tell Bruno the truth, therefore, confusing him about the true nature of the Jews. Gretel kept Bruno from the knowledge of good and evil, which put him in a dangerous situation, causing his death.

Homework 3/8

Write a 1 page journal using your CRE.  Claim, 2-3 reasons, Evidence.

It is 1942, and you are a German Nazi soldier, smack dab in the middle of World War II.  You have been assigned by your superior officers to a Concentration Camp, where your job will be to kill Jewish individuals in the gas chambers. Your superior officer finds out you are having second thoughts about going through with this horrific act, and has threatened to kill your family and have you arrested as a traitor if you don’t perform your duties. He has even assigned someone to take your place if this happens.

Do You...
  1. Go through with your job, killing thousands of Jewish prisoners, but saving yourself and your family?

  1. Refuse to kill the Jewish prisoners, which would cause the death of your family, even though the person they hired to replace you will kill the prisoners either way?

Homework 3/7

You are a successful celebrity who runs a non-profit organization that raises millions of dollars to help people around the world. When you were young, you committed a crime and got away with it. Now, you find out that an innocent person is being convicted for the crime that you committed years ago.
What should you do?
  1. Confess your crime. Your personal reputation and work will be destroyed, and your nonprofit will no longer be able to raise money to help people in need.
  2. Do nothing. Allow an innocent person to go to prison for the crime you committed.
  • Go under the assumption it is a more serious crime.

  • Write a one page journal stating your CRE. Have a claim, 2-3 reasons, and explanation/evidence to back up your reason.
